Storytelling. This will allow viewers to
see for themselves true stories of hope which is far more
powerful than being told what to believe by a narrator who
is regurgitating alot of facts and figures. Storytelling
can quickly and effectively help a person enter into the
world of another. That's why feature films and Hollywood
are such big business! First, it helps to realize that different
forms of media will best serve you in different ways.
Pamphlets
and websites are great tools for disseminating facts and
figure type information. Movies and videos work best to
communicate stories of hurt, healing, and hope. In making your video, I use what I call
"reality-based" video storytelling. What is that
you ask?
Reality-based video storytelling is the process
of interviewing real people, sharing real stories, about
real lives. This will allow viewers to see for themselves
true stories of hope which is far more powerful than being
told what to believe by a narrator regurgitating lots of
facts and figures. Using reality-based storytelling is less
about "talking down" to your audience and more
about sharing real stories of those being ministered to.
However, the problem with most promotional
video producers is that they leave out this critical element
of real person storytelling, thus presenting only "factual"
information. Chances are those videos will not be more effective
or emotionally compelling. I strive to "find the heart
of the story" and then combine the needed informational
elements of your mission along with these "reality-based"
heart felt stories. Does it work? Absolutely!
Why? Because this approach engages the
right-side (emotional-side) of the brain, not just the left-side
(informational-side) of the brain. This storytelling technique
emotionally and compassionately touches the heart of your
viewer, which in turn dramatically increases your chances
of moving them to action.
